Grace Kids Children Ministry
On Sunday morning at Grace Community Church we provide classes for a variety of ages. There are 3 divisions for the nursery: Crawlers are birth to 12 months; Walkers are 12-18 months; and Rompers are 18 months to 3 years. Those rooms are staffed by volunteers who serve on a monthly rotation.
Because we have two worship services each Sunday, we offer the following classes during the first service: in the nursery we have one room for the Crawlers and one for the Walkers. For this hour the Rompers who were not 2 yrs. old before June 1 are in the room with the Walkers, and the Rompers who were 2 by June 1 are in a class for ages 2 & 3.
Children ages 4 through Kindergarten are in a combined class for the first hour, and grades 1-4 are in a combined class. From year to year this arrangement may vary slightly depending on the number of children in each age group.
The second hour looks like this: The 3 divisions for the nursery; a 3 year old class; a 4 & 5 year old class; a Kindergarten class; a 1st-4th grade class and a 5th & 6th grade class.
The identical curriculum is used for both hours. The preschool classes follow a curriculum that takes them through the Bible in 3 years and the 1-4 grade classes use a curriculum that goes through the Bible in 4 years. The 5th & 6th grade class use a curriculum that prepares them to deal with current challenges to their faith.
On Wednesday evening we offer a program called Awana for children 3years through 6th grade. The 3 year old must be 3 by January 1 of the current year. This program meets during the school year (September-April). The purpose of Awana is to create an exciting way to get the Word of God into the hearts and minds of children. There are competitive games, fun songs, Bible teaching and group time for working on memorizing scripture. There are incentives and rewards for their work and lots of encouragement from the leaders. To learn more about Awana, visit their website at awana.org.
At GCC we love children! Our workers must pass a background check and we attempt to use only those people who feel called to serve with children. We believe we have the very best volunteers!
